WHY A FINANCIAL MODELLING IN EXCEL COURSE?

When looking at any financial opportunity the ability to perform accurate and realistic analysis is imperative. In today's ever-changing business environment the capability to write simple spreadsheets is not enough. You have to be able to incorporate all the "what if" scenarios and stress any proposal to its limits. A well structured financial model can facilitate and improve the reliability and quality of your decision-making. Modelling techniques are used in many different areas, such as investment appraisal, capital planning, budgeting, valuation, financial analysis and forecasting. Banks and businesses worldwide rely on the information produced by financial models – for many it's the key to success.

FINANCIAL MODELLING IN EXCEL TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The objective of this "how-to" course is to teach delegates to build robust financial models. On completion of this 3-day training programme delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the different types of financial models and when each should be applied
  • Construct financial models making use of a broad range of Excel methods and techniques
  • Incorporate elements such as risk, sensitivity, optimisation and forecasting into financial models
  • Produce meaningful management reports and charts for communication

FINANCIAL MODELLING IN EXCEL COURSE STRUCTURE

The course begins by concentrating on spreadsheet best practice, auditing and the advanced use of Excel. These skills are then applied to the construction of financial, valuation and investment models. Delegates learn how to incorporate forecasting, optimisation, risk assessment and sensitivity scenarios into these models. The course is taught using a step-by-step approach to enable delegates to construct financial models for a wide range of practical scenarios.

  Course Objectives
All delegates will receive a pre-course questionnaire to ensure that the course director gains an outline of delegates' job functions and the personal objectives for the course. The course combines theory sessions with practical and interactive case studies and exercises to reinforce the concepts overed in each teaching session. Emphasis is placed on delegates gaining practical, hands-on experience of the design and construction of financial models in Excel. Comprehensive product notes and a CD containing modelling software will be provided for future reference. A case study runs through the whole course and completing builds on the development of new skills. The case study is intended to allow delegates to apply course concepts by producing a comprehensive model with a wide range of Excel features and methods. Support is also available by email and telephone at the end of the course to ensure that delegates can continue to develop and apply the principles learnt on the course
